Pets are beloved by women, men and children alike. But research indicates that pets may play a special role in the lives of female pet owners.

 

A study by UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine uncovered a psychological component to the relationship between women and their pets. Pets act as 

companions when family members and friends are unavailable. Furthermore, the study also indicated that women who live alone but own a pet are less lonely than women living alone who are without a pet.

 

Pets have become more humanized in recent years, thanks in large part to the women in their lives. Women are driving the purchases of pet clothing and accessories. Women largely fund the grooming expenses for pets, and pamper the animals, according to information from the American Pet Products Association. In 2012, the APPA estimates American consumers will spend $52.87 billion on their pets. And women just may be doing the buying.

 

It is well documented that pets can improve the quality of life of the people that share their lives. The emotional bond between a pet and a female pet parent could be more significant than the relationship between pets and other members of the family.
